Caritas staff

A non-government international aid and development organisation, Caritas Australia assists over 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific, as well as Indigenous Australia. In fact, we are part of Caritas Internationalis which works in over 200 countries and territories.

Those who work for Caritas must...dedicate themselves to others with heartfelt concern.
Pope Benedict XVI,
Deus Caritas Est

Alongside our international partners, we aim to address the causes of poverty and bring about long-term change. We support programs which promote human development and self-reliance, such as:

  • Improving health
  • Overcoming illiteracy
  • Reducing environmental damage
  • Conserving cultural identity
  • Providing training for better agricultural practices.

Plus we provide humanitarian assistance in emergencies like the West Africa Food Crisis, where more than 18 million people are in need of aid due to severe droughts, poor harvests, conflict and rising food prices.

The work of Caritas Australia is shaped by the tradition of Catholic Social Teaching (CST). These values provide a moral framework for our work.
