Stop Global Poverty sign in Port Augusta

Take action

Take the Blueprint for a Better World Challenge

‘Blueprint for a Better World — The Millennium Development Goals and You’ shows that it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that no human being suffers the deprivations of extreme poverty. The exhibition also highlights that every single one of us can make a positive difference.
We can all take action to help the Millennium Development Goals become a reality.

Secretary General speaks out
Watch inspiring speeches from Secretary General of the Caritas Internationalis network - Lesley-Anne Knight - on how you can take action on the Millennium Development Goals.

Local Community Action!

Have your community declare their commitment to the Millennium Development Goals by hanging up a visible road sign and posters — 'STOP Global Poverty today!'

POSTERS: Approach local businesses, schools and parish communities. Ask them to take action by hanging a poster in a visible location (eg. in a shop window or at a school entrance).
ROAD SIGN: Collect signatures of support from people in your community and use these to approach your local Council. Ask them to pass a motion saying they will print and hang the road sign in your local area. You can download a road sign poster to print here (500Kb PDF).
Contact Alex Engel for advice and information on how to get your local council to make the road sign.

Other actions you can do:

Personal: Write on a piece of paper a pledge that you feel will make the world a better place. If you visit the exhibition, simply hand to an exhibition official and the pledge will then be attached to the official exhibition pledge tower.

Family: Be in solidarity with the poor and marginalized by resolving to live simply as a family by reducing your carbon footprint, buying locally produced food and being water aware. Join the Caritas Australia Be More Challenge www.bemore.org.au

Local: Sign the Millennium Development Goals pledge to declare to your local Member / Senator that your community is united against poverty. After this exhibition, the pledges will be presented to local politicians. These pledges are the community’s petition to the Government to do all in its power to end extreme poverty by 2015.

National: Write to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, stating your support for Australia to live up to its commitment by increasing international aid to 0.7% and ensuring that aid is effective.

Global: Support the work of Caritas in ensuring that the Millennium Development Goals are achieved by becoming a Caritas hopegiver. For more information please visit: www.caritas.org.au/hopegiver
