Caritas Australia's fantastic supporters have been running across the country to raise awareness and funds for Caritas' work, including...

Sydney City2Surf

Caritas Australia runners at Sydneys City to Surf

Caritas staff and supporters took to the streets of Sydney at the City2Surf on August 9th.

Special thanks to our student runners from St Paul’s College in Lismore and Kincoppal Rose Bay for taking up the challenge to run 14km in solidarity with those that have to cover countless kilometres for basic necessities.  Supporters Libby and Anna Jeffery took the act of solidarity one step further by carrying a jerry can of water, similar to what many women would have to carry long distances each day to collect water, the whole 14km.

Together they raised nearly $4,000

Perth City to Surf

Caritas Australia Perth and CYM to run for fun(ds)

In solidarity with the world’s most marginalised, staff from Catholic Youth Ministry Perth (CYM) together with Caritas Australia Perth Office last month participated in the City to Surf Fun Run with the aim of raising money and awareness for Caritas’ aid and development work.

CYM Events Coordinator Kim Hodgson said the occasion was a great opportunity for those who participated to step out and put their faith in action.

“I was inspired by the number of young people who joined the team and enthusiastically took kilometers for Compassion to the street,” Ms Hodgson said.

Servite College in Tuart Hill also had 35 Year 11 students participate in the 4km walk, carrying buckets of water to show their solidarity and to raise funds and awareness of the work undertaken by Caritas Australia.

“Caritas Ks campaign is a great opportunity for our Servite students to not only raise funds for Caritas Australia but raise awareness in our community for the social justice issues affecting the most vulnerable in the world” said Rob Thomas, Christian Service Learning Coordinator at Servite College.

Caritas Australia Fundraising and Promotions Officer WA and fellow runner Natalie Weir said she is extremely grateful for the support from CYM and Servite College. Together they raised more than $6,500 to support the poorest of the poor.

Bridge to Brisbane

The Caritas Bridge to Brisbane team enjoyed a perfect morning, walking and talking about the very real struggles millions endure every day to gain access to clean drinking water. The team raised almost $10,000 which will enable many more women, men and children to have access to this  most basic human right.

Six participants were from the Holland Park/Mount Gravatt parish community, they held special fundraisers at St Joachim’s and St Agnes parishes collecting around $6,000. The aim was to raise awareness, within their community, of the struggle millions face each day.

A very big thank to the Caritas K’s team for walking in solidarity with those vulnerable to extreme poverty.
