The Caritas network is responding to recent floods in Sri Lanka, which have impacted over half a million people.

Torrential rains from May 25 resulted in severe flooding and landslides across 15 districts in Sri Lanka, particularly the Southern and South Central provinces. It is estimated over 600,000 people have been displaced with 203 deaths including many children. There has been damage to thousands of homes.

Caritas Sri Lanka is coordinating the relief effort on-ground, with the support of other local Caritas agencies such as Caritas Colombo and Caritas Galle. Food and water as well as sanitary/ wash kits and school and stationery items for children are being distributed to those in need.

Caritas Australia is in contact with our partners in Sri Lanka and is accepting donations through the Asia Regional Appeal to assist with the emergency relief effort.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the floods.

If you would like to support those in need of emergency assistance, please donate to our Asia Emergency Appeal by calling 1800 024 413 or donate online.
