Children in Timor-Leste

About the program

Martina and a staff member from the Protection Program

The Protection Program aims to promote the protection and resilience of up to 1,500 people in vulnerable groups including survivors of gender-based violence, children and people living with disabilities. It aims to strengthen relationships and structures in these communities and increase awareness of rights and responsibilities in reducing gender-based violence for vulnerable women and children.

Caritas Australia's support of the program focuses on empowering survivors of violence to respond to issues. By working with our local partners, we identify factors that contribute to family violence and discuss appropriate strategies to increase family harmony.

Caritas Australia also supports the women’s shelters in these communities, which provide immediate protection, counselling, livelihoods support and legal assistance if needed. The program also targets the men in these communities, aiming to increase their understanding of the role men play in reducing family violence.
