East Africa is miles away from Australia. But out-of-sight shouldn’t mean out-of-mind.

There are millions of people – grandparents, mums, dads and their children, in desperate need of food, water and humanitarian assistance. Over 1.3 million young girls and boys are considered acutely malnourished.

Caritas Australia has been assisting in this region for many years; however it’s never been as desperate as right now.

Earlier today, Wednesday 5 October, Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd made the announcement that AusAID, the Australian Government’s overseas aid program, has allocated funds for the East Africa Food Crisis under the Dollar-for-Dollar initiative.

So, in a sense, you can double your money! All you need to do is donate* between 5 October and 30 November 2011 and you’ll feel twice as good knowing that every dollar you give is matched.

For example, if you donate $50 to Caritas Australia for the East Africa Food Crisis, the Australian Government will match it with $50.

Please donate today and double your money. Thanks for your support.

*AusAid will only match public funds. It will not match corporate or philanthropic organisations. Workplace giver funds will be accepted, however, if an employer matches the employee contribution, this will NOT be eligible.
