Caritas network responds to Kerala floods
| Aug 17, 2018
More than 100 people have died in monsoon floods in India’s southern state of Kerala; the worst flooding experienced in almost a century.
The recent floods have left an estimated 150,000 people displaced and many of those killed were crushed under debris caused by landslides.
Caritas India has already conducted rapid needs assessments in the worst affected districts of the state. Four of Caritas India’s partners have already responded with immediate food assistance. Emergency water and sanitation (WASH) activities are currently being developed to address need and reduce the potential for disease outbreaks.
Caritas Australia will continue to monitor the crisis and the wider network response.
Please remember the people of Kerala in your prayers this weekend.
