Stand with women around the world this September #WomenfortheWorld
13 Aug 17
This September, women around Australia will be standing in solidarity with women across the world facing poverty and injustice.
Women for the World events have been held over the last three years, across Sydney and Melbourne, as well as Canberra, which had its first event this year. The events have proven so successful, that we are inviting women from across the country to get their friends, colleagues or family together to host their own fundraising event.

“We know that women are disproportionately affected by poverty.” Louise Woods, Caritas Australia’s Fundraising Manager, said.
“But we also know that when women stand together, incredible things happen. Together we can make the world a better place for all women.”
Some key statistics which show the importance of standing with women, include:
- Women make up approximately 55% of the world’s poor
- Two-thirds of people unable to read and write are women
- 11.4 million women and girls work in forced labour
- 1 in 3 women and girls experience physical or sexual violence
The money you raise through your Women for the World event, will support programs which foster women’s leadership and improve the economic and social participation of women and girls.
Your Women for the World event can be as simple as having some friends over for dinner or getting a group together for a night out. We invite anyone who cares about shining a light on the plight of women facing poverty and injustice to take part – including schools, community groups and workplaces.
Caritas Australia works with children, women and men most vulnerable to poverty through 129 programs in 29 countries globally and with First Australian communities.
