Where We Work
Cambodia
Cambodia’s turbulent history has left a legacy that continues to cause suffering across the country. Although it has undergone rapid economic growth in recent years, many rural communities still have limited access to health care, safe drinking water and sanitation.

Salin's story
Salin is a mother and a principal of a primary school in rural Cambodia. Like many families in her village, Salin faced water shortages which made it difficult to provide safe drinking water for her six-year-old daughter, Neth. Her school also had no clean water and students would often fall ill and miss school due to drinking dirty water.
With the encouragement of the teachers at her school and other villagers, Salin joined the Upholding Community Dignity Together program, supported by our local partner, HURREDO, and participated in training in water management, chicken raising, business management and hygiene awareness.Â
Salin was elected as the chairperson of her village’s water station committee and led her community to build a 10,000 water station behind her school. The children at her school are now healthier and can attend classes more regularly. Salin also used the skills she learnt from the program to help supply clean water to the most vulnerable households in her village, teach community members how to clean toilets, and promote hygiene to school children.
After the project was set up, everyone can get water in school. We have enough water for cleaning and use in the bathrooms. Now, the students can use the bathrooms.
