The current situation in Nepal
A sudden and devastating flash flood struck Rasuwa District on the morning of 26 August 2026, following a massive and rapid surge of water through the Bhote Koshi River. The flood occurred with very little warning and rapidly overwhelmed areas along the river corridor.
The areas around Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syabrubesi were among the worst affected. Initial reports indicate extensive damage to markets, settlements, roads, bridges, security facilities, hydropower projects and other critical infrastructure. The flood also severely disrupted the Rasuwagadhi border area, a major trade and tourism route between Nepal and China.

Where does my donation go?
The funds you donate to this appeal go to Caritas Australia’s Emergency Response Fund and will be used to provide humanitarian assistance to communities affected by this crisis. Should circumstances prevent us from delivering aid to this emergency, or if excess funds remain after the crisis, donations will be directed to other emergencies where Caritas has humanitarian operations.
