FAQs

Now in its eighth year, Women for the World brings the Australian community together to stand with women across the world.

Vulnerable women in marginalised communities face many challenges including lack of education and training, food insecurity, inadequate access to health care, gender-based violence and discrimination.

We learn from their resilience, are in awe their strength and celebrate them as leaders in their communities.

We #StandWithHer.

For over 50 years, Caritas Australia has worked hand-in-hand with the most marginalised and remote communities in Australia and overseas to fight poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. Through locally-led programs, we work towards a world where all can thrive and reach their full potential.

As the international aid and development agency of the Catholic Church in Australia, Caritas Australia works with and for all people, to address immediate needs and long-term goals, regardless of gender, religion, race, ethnicity, sexuality or political beliefs.

Caritas is a Latin word that means love and compassion.

No. We respond to the immediate and long-term development needs of vulnerable communities, regardless of gender, religion, race, ethnicity, sexuality or political beliefs. We work in a wide range of contexts, both religious and non-religious, across Australia, Asia, Africa, the Pacific and the Middle East.

By hosting a Women for the World event, supporting a friend or family member who is holding a fundraiser, or donating directly, you are standing with other Australian women against gender-based poverty and injustice.

Women and girls often bear the brunt of poverty. Too often, girls miss out on school and the chance to forge their own path in life. Many women remain financially dependent on their husband or family, and don’t have access to a secure income of their own. Your support helps fund Caritas Australia programs that help women gain access to essential services such as healthcare and women’s shelters, business skills training, clean water programs and more.

At Caritas Australia, we pride ourselves on having one of the lowest administration rates in the sector.

83% of funds are spent on Local and International Programs, including vital education and advocacy programs in Australia.

4% of funds are spent on essential administration costs, including our talented people.

13% of funds are spent on Fundraising, so that we can maintain and expand the scope of our humanitarian partnerships, which reach over 3 million people each year.
