Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the women and caregivers who shape our lives with love, resilience and determination. It is a moment to say thank you for the sacrifices made, the encouragement given, and the strength mums bring to their families every day.

For many people, finding the right Mother’s Day gift can feel challenging. You want something meaningful, something that reflects your mum’s values and the love she has shared with you.

Around the world, mothers are doing exactly what mums everywhere do, caring for their children and holding families together, often in extremely challenging circumstances. In vulnerable communities, mothers are the heart of their families, finding ways to keep children safe, fed and hopeful, even when resources are scarce.

This Mother’s Day, you can honour your mum with a gift that gives back. A meaningful Mother’s Day gift that supports mothers and families as they work to build brighter, more secure futures.

Meet Ronita: A mother building a brighter future for her family

Ronita is a young mother living in the Philippines with her husband, Lean and their two children, Egzy who is three, and Clark, who is five.

Lean is Ronita’s husband who works seven days a week in waste disposal, leaving home at 3am and returning around 9pm each day. Despite these long hours, the family can only afford to rent a small brick room measuring around ten square metres.

Ronita And Her Son In The Phillipines

Ronita married at just 15 years old and soon became pregnant with her first child. Becoming a mother so young placed her at greater risk of falling deeper into poverty. But with the right support, and a mother’s determination, Ronita found a way to change her path.

Through a program supported by Faithful Companions of Jesus, Caritas Australia’s local partner, Ronita was given the opportunity to continue her education. The program allowed her to re-enrol in her studies in a safe and flexible learning environment, even after the arrival of her second child.

After completing the program, Ronita went on to attend senior high school classes. She has now finished her final exams and secured a job at a call centre. Ronita hopes to continue her studies, earn a stable income and provide a more secure future for her children.

Her story is a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when mothers are supported with education and opportunity.
