Unite Against Poverty this Lent – how will you turn your compassion into action?

The Long Walk For Water (2)

Every year, Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion brings together thousands of people across the country to help create real, lasting change for vulnerable communities all around the world.

Last year, we made it easier than ever to get involved, calling on communities to Unite Against Poverty by taking on The Long Walk for Water or by hosting their own fundraising event. Thousands stepped up, raising over $10 million to help build a future where no one gets left behind.

Project Compassion returns this Lent – will you stand alongside us to make this our biggest, most impactful year yet?

How will you turn your compassion into action this Lent?

The Long Walk For Water (1)

The Long Walk for Water

Every day, 292 million people around the world make long, often dangerous journeys on foot to collect water. This Lent, we’re calling on you to walk in solidarity with them.

Join us for The Long Walk for Water, a flexible and inclusive 40-day challenge that turns your steps into life-changing impact. Take on the challenge your way – simply choose a walking goal that suits your fitness level, decide whether to go solo or rally a team, and get active while helping to create a future where everyone has access to clean, safe water.

Host A Lent Event (2)

Host a Lent Event

Have you been looking for the perfect opportunity to get baking, put your trivia skills to the test or show off your pancake-making prowess? Now is your chance – get creative and turn your community into a powerful force for good by hosting your very own Lent event.

From movie nights to sports tournaments, mornings teas to bakes sales, there are so many different ways to bring people together to have fun while making a difference. No matter what you choose to do, you’ll be helping people around the world break cycles of poverty and build brighter, more sustainable futures for themselves and their families.

Your impact

Every step taken or event hosted this Lent helps to ensure that when people around the world face poverty, injustice and disaster, they do not do so alone.

By standing alongside us and turning your compassion into action, you’ll be helping to transform the lives of people like 13-year-old Sisilia from rural Tanzania.

Life has been difficult for Sisilia since her father passed away when she was just a baby. She supported her mother by fetching water for the family three times a day, often through unsafe and exhausting conditions that left little time for study.

With help from funds raised during Project Compassion, Sisilia and her school were able to join the A+ Successor Project. This project has improved access to clean water by installing taps in the school, as well as in Sisilia’s village – meaning it now takes her just two minutes to collect water.

For Sisilia, less time spent walking means more time spent in school, chasing her dream of one day becoming a pilot.

“I’d like to fly through different countries and pass through the sky,” Sisilia said. “Also, I want to help my family live a better life. If I can study without spending so much time fetching water, I know I can achieve my dream.”
