India is struggling to control a massive surge in COVID-19 cases, with an alarming 1.5 million new cases reported over the last week. The country’s second surge has brought the total caseload past 15 million, second only to the United States globally. Â

Caritas Australia was honoured to host the Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Senator the Hon Zed Seselja, in the Sydney office on Monday April 19. Â

Catholic Health Australia members have announced they will match Caritas Australia’s funding to bring the total amount raised to over $500,000 to fight COVID-19 in Papua New Guinea. Â

On March 22, a massive fire swept through Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, destroying thousands of refugee shelters, as well as health centres and other facilities.

Caritas Australia welcomes the announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison that Australia has allocated 8000 vaccines, as well as personal protective equipment and medical specialists, to support Papua New Guinea with its recent mass outbreak of COVID-19.
