Australians are being called to run, walk, or jog for Sudan at City2Surf 2026, as the country faces the world’s largest displacement and hunger crisis.

Right now, Sudan is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian emergency, with 30 million people in need of acute assistance, including more than 14 million children. Ongoing conflict has forced families from their homes, disrupted access to food and clean water, and left millions struggling to survive.

Caritas Australia has been supporting the Caritas Internationalis and ACT Alliance humanitarian appeal for Sudan since 2024, working with local partners across Darfur, Gedaref, White Nile, Khartoum, and Kordofan states. Through this response, more than 278,000 people have received lifesaving assistance, including access to clean water and sanitation, emergency cash support, health services and protection for women and children affected by conflict and displacement.

Caritas Australia’s Sudan Appeal also supports Catholic Relief Services in the region, which in November 2025 alone supported 32 health facilities and delivered health, nutrition and food assistance to more than 300,000 people across Darfur.

Despite this support the ongoing scale of need is immense, and the lives of vulnerable people including women, children, the sick and elderly, are at risk.

On Sunday August 9, Australians can help restore hope by taking part in Run for Sudan at City2Surf 2026, raising vital funds to support affected communities.

Whether participants choose to walk, jog or run the iconic 14-kilometre course from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach, every step taken will help deliver critical humanitarian aid where it is needed most.

Entries for City2Surf 2026 open on the 26th of March 2026.

Those wanting to support can:

Become a Caritas Australia Charity Superstar

By committing to raise a minimum of $1,000, participants will become a Charity Superstar, receiving free race entry along with exclusive perks including a special starting wave, Superstar bib, and medal.
