The flow on effects of emergencies can be devastating
A recent report from the World Food Programme (WFP) found that food is one of the top three concerns for people impacted by the Ukraine crisis, and around 45 per cent of people are worried about not getting enough food.
In addition to the devastating loss of life, destruction of homes and livelihoods, this conflict will have significant long-term consequences beyond Ukraine as dozens of countries rely on Ukrainian harvests to feed their populations.
Countries in Africa and the Middle East importing wheat, maize, barley and sunflower oil directly from Ukraine and Russia are now facing greater food insecurity and steep price increases. For already vulnerable communities in this region, a natural disaster or emergency like this compounds the existing daily challenges that they already face.

Where does my donation go?
The funds raised through this appeal will be used to provide immediate and longer-term humanitarian assistance to communities affected by crises.
Where this is not possible, the funds will be used to provide immediate and longer-term development and humanitarian assistance to communities affected by crises. If any excess funds remain after a crisis, or if there are changes in circumstances beyond our control that limit our ability to use the funds, they are kept in the Emergency Response Appeal so that we can respond to ongoing development needs and future crises across all our regions.
