With your support, we work alongside our partners in five countries in Africa – Malawi, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Together with our local partners, we support a diversity of programs, from providing assistance to former combatants in the Democratic Republic of Congo to helping fight child marriage in Malawi.

One of the programs that Caritas Australia supports is the A+ program in Tanzania and Malawi. With the support of our local partner, the program works to provide literacy training to adults in Tanzania who never had the opportunity to attend school.

In Tanzania, around 1 in 4 women and girls over the age of 15 cannot read or write. One of the people whose lives have been transformed through your generous support is Oliva.

Oliva never had the opportunity to go to school but after she joined the A+ program, she was able to enrol in literacy and numeracy classes.

Now, Oliva has graduated and she has set up a classroom in her own home so that she can share what she has learnt with other women.
