How Martina’s life transformed
For a decade, Martina in Timor-Leste experienced violence in her home, but stayed to protect her eight children.
One day, her love for her family encouraged her to come to the Uma PAS women’s shelter to ask for help. Martina had the strength to walk away from everything familiar – her home, her village – and to ensure the safety of her children.
At the shelter, supported by generous people like you through the Protection Program in Timor-Leste, Martina found the care, protection,and relief she needed to begin to rebuild her life. During her stay, Martina enrolled in one of our livelihoods and women’s rights programs and began to learn the necessary skills and knowledge to take control of her life.
Through the Caritas Australia-supported program, Martina could leave her pain behind and rebuild a new life for herself and her family.
