Brave women endure unimaginable challenges every day

Women in areas prone to conflict and poverty face unimaginable hardships every day. They endure injustice, hunger, and extreme challenges, often going without food to ensure their children can eat. With limited education and income-generating opportunities, these women struggle to support themselves and their families, trapped in a cycle of poverty. But with your support, we can change this.

A beacon of courage: Meet Talaso

In the arid expanses of northern Kenya, Talaso, a 20-year-old mother, was once supported by her thriving livestock that dotted the landscape around her. Talaso's world now looks very different due to a relentless drought. The very foundation of her family's livelihood—her livestock—has been nearly wiped out, leaving behind a harsh reality of scarcity.

"There were no such droughts. The area had grass. We only saw one drought spell, the area looked good. The life now is so difficult. There is no food, there is no water, the livestock are no longer here. We used to have livestock and we used to sell the livestock and get food. Now everything is gone, and we have a very difficult life now," Talaso recalls.

This is where you, as a Champion for Change, can make a profound difference. With your monthly support, Talaso and others like her can access the resources they need to build a better future.

Education

Nearly 690 million individuals face the harsh reality of hunger, with many experiencing extreme conditions that threaten their health, education, and livelihoods. Through your support, families can find sustainable food solutions, ensuring families have the nourishment they need to thrive.

Priscilla's journey from drought to harvest

Priscilla lives in Zimbabwe with her husband and grandchildren. Severe droughts worsened by climate change led to food insecurity in her community. Through the Zimbabwe Integrated Community Development Program, supported by Caritas Australia, Priscilla learned conservation farming techniques. She now grows drought-resistant crops and started poultry farming, providing a stable income and ensuring her grandchildren can attend school.

Ronita's journey to support her children

Ronita, from the Philippines, became pregnant as a teenager, which put her at risk of falling further into poverty. With support from Caritas Australia and our partners the Faithful Companions of Jesus, Ronita was given a second chance at completing her studies and was able to continue learning in a safe and flexible environment. She has now completed her final high school exams and secured a job to support her family.

Leaia's journey to clean water

Leaia, from Samoa, struggled without a reliable source of clean water. Caritas Australia's local partner, Caritas Samoa, installed a water tank at her home, significantly improving her family's health and living conditions. This support ensured that Leaia's children could attend school regularly and live healthier lives.
